Bridle leather is vegetable tanned cowhide that has been finished with fats, waxes and tallow. It gets it’s name from what it was originally created for – a bridle – the straps on a horse’s head which connect to the reins. It is very strong and long lasting, but more importantly, it is very beautiful and naturally produced.
Our SoftLine flat leather leads and collars undergo a totally different process in the tannery to that of Bridle Leather.
However, SoftLine is heavily oiled during its tannery process – and no it doesn’t come off on your hands or clothes or dogs coat – and never needs oiling.
The handle and the trigger hook end of our leads are plaited and the finished article looks like the bees knees!
Our SoftLine leather has the advantage of being easy to handle with the collars not cutting into the dogs coat
Kangaroo leather is a strong light weight leather derived from the hide of kangaroo that is dyed in to a variety of rich colours.
Studies conducted by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) confirm that kangaroo is one of the strongest leathers of similar substance available.
Similarly when split into thinner substances kangaroo retains considerably more of the original tensile strength of the unsplit leather than does calf. When split to 20% of original thickness kangaroo retains between 30 to 60% of the tensile strength of the unsplit hide. Calf on the other hand split to 20% of original thickness retains only 1-4% of original strength.
This is the reason why Essenjay Kangaroo Leather Leads and Collars are very strong.
The Australian kangaroo industry produces a range of meat and leather products from animals harvested from the wild under strict government controlled Management Plans. These ensure the harvest is sustainable and humane. A wide cross section of Australian ecologists support the kangaroo industry as being both sustainable and environmentally wise. Many argue kangaroos, which are native to Australia, are a more environmentally friendly livestock option than introduced sheep and cattle.
